The Citadelle des Morts intro cinematic is out, and while I was already excited for more Zombies after Black Ops 6’s launch, my hype is now at fever pitch for the new map update. It’s been a while since I’ve written on Shutter Paw–I’ve been dipping my toes in some YouTube–but now’s the perfect time to tap away furiously at my laptop and speculate on the future of Zombies. Off the bat, I’m so happy we’re getting intro cinematics for post-launch maps again. It’s been a while! By my estimations, Ancient Evil was the last one we got (ironic, given …
Black Ops 6 Zombies: First Impressions and Feedback
Black Ops 6 is phenomenal. I’ve spent countless hours playing around with all three pillars since launch and have barely scratched the surface. Given the live service element, I’m saving a full critique until the first additional Zombies map is released, but I still wanted to get some initial thoughts out there with some feedback for the Zombies Team. I love BO6’s iteration of the mode so much and think it will only improve as the year progresses! As this is a hybrid of first impressions review and feedback, I will probably repeat myself a lot. Expect as many “It’d …
Black Ops 6 Zombies: A Blog About a Blog
If it wasn’t clear, it should be now: Treyarch is listening to the community more than ever. Despite a short turnaround from reveal to launch, Treyarch has acknowledged and addressed much of the feedback for Black Ops 6’s release. Yesterday’s blog post delivered valuable information about Zombies, including a deep dive look at the augment system, Gobblegums, and the response to various community gripes from the Call of Duty NEXT reveal. Treyarch confirmed that the Liberty Falls environment was still a work in progress at the time of its first reveal. The town’s look, feel, and sounds will all have …
Into the Intel II: The Chaos Story, Mr Peeks, and the Dark Aether Villains
Following the first Into the Intel, which covered Project Janus, the relationship between Aether and Dark Aether, and some thoughts on MWZ pre-finale, I’m back with further musings about the mysteries of Zombies. First up, something Black Ops 4 fans haven’t stopped talking about since it was discovered. Chaos Control The Chaos story was set to take over from Aether following the conclusion of Black Ops 4. Unfortunately, this didn’t play out as Treyarch intended. When the Cold War Zombies reveal introduced Dark Aether, it was safe to assume that Chaos would never be mentioned again, resigned to history as …
Concord and the Game of Survival
PlayStation has dominated the headlines this week, and for good reason: Astro Bot is a triumph! Currently rated at 94 on Metacritic, the game proves that smaller-scoped titles can be massive successes if you trust the development team to deliver on its vision. Flip the record over, however, and we can’t ignore the rot on the other side. The infamous Concord, a 5-v-5 hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios, was sentenced to death after only two weeks. As of 6th September, the shooter is offline indefinitely. Sony looked at the numbers and decided it was better to fall on the …
Black Ops 6 Beta: Week One Feedback
The Black Ops 6 beta has been a lot of fun. I’ve put in about 8-10 hours, maxed rank days ago, and am still playing just for fun. It feels like a successor to Cold War and Treyarch’s classic Black Ops games while having the boldest movement changes to a Call of Duty since Advanced Warfare. It’s a fresh experience with traditional Treyarch multiplayer sensibilities, and it’s easily the most excited I’ve felt for a Call of Duty multiplayer mode in a long time. I am not a Multiplayer expert by any means. There aren’t enough enemies of the undead …
Look At This Esthtuk Zortuk
With the (excellent) Black Ops 6 beta live, bits and pieces of leaked information are making the rounds on Twitter. One thing that has caught the eye of many Zombies players is a potential “Classic Mode.” All we have is the name; we must make zero assumptions here. For all we know, this could have been toyed with and scrapped early in development. Until it’s officially confirmed, do not assume it’s coming to Black Ops 6 (and even then, wait until we get concrete information – Black Ops 4 Factions, anybody?). Classic Mode is an interesting concept, though, and there’s …
The Panic of Liberty Falls
The last three weeks were lovely while they lasted. The air of positivity around Black Ops 6 Zombies has returned to the usual nonsense. Unfortunately, I’m not surprised. Let me be clear: you are allowed not to like the game. If you have issues with it, you are free to voice them. However, there is a difference between expressing criticism and the vitriolic withering displayed by “fans” of Zombies on and off since the launch of Black Ops 4 in 2018. I’m okay with takes I disagree with, but some of the things I’ve seen on Twitter today are unhinged. …
Richtofen Returns; Liberty Falls
The word “cinema” gets thrown around a lot these days. It’s been repurposed as an adjective to signify the quality of something, commonly a scene in a movie or video game. I’m guilty of using “cinema” to describe anything I deem fit. Like most modern linguistic trends, it started as a bit of a laugh, and before I knew it, the way the postman delivered my mail was cinema. But there’s no better way to describe the Liberty Falls intro cutscene. It is pure cinema: the opening shots of West Virginia soundtracked by Vera Lynn, the way Richtofen’s dream slowly …
Modern Warfare Zombies Finale: Fishing in Shadows
The finale to Modern Warfare Zombies could easily have been lost amongst the hype of Black Ops 6. Many had given up on the mode due to its different take on the Zombies formula and sparse updates, but ultimately, it was worth the wait. I’m not just referring to the story, though. Most Story Missions have been relatively straightforward – engaging enough, but nothing to write home about. “Ascension” (cute) was the best by a mile. The boss fight also enters the conversation of the Top 10 Zombies bosses. As a solo player, it was tough. It required my full …
